Synopsis

Gypsy Smith, is a gunfighter and a bounty hunter. When he leads the US army into a Cheyenne camp to capture a suspected Indian renegade, a long train of events begins that finally lead to that 'good day to die'. White Wolf, only a child, is one of the few survivors of the massacre of his tribe that day, and Gypsy brings him to live with the Maxwell family, where he grows up not fully Indian and not really white but a bit too close to Rachel, the Maxwell daughter.

Gypsy now reappears, leading a group of Black settlers from the post-Civil War South to start a new life in a town of their own - Freedom in the Oklahoma Territory, its first black settlement. White Wolf (or Corby as a 'white' name') is now with his people, but all of these parts come back together in conflict, violence, loss, and Pyrric triumph.

Too long for such a small story. Excessive in its telling without exploring a full picture. Bit and pieces of bravery and love with disproportionate performances.

20 years BEFORE the block buster all American Django … 20 years AFTER the all Australian Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith … there’s a soppy b grader that launches race and gender to the humble western!
Sorry guys .. no $ for script , support actors (Farah Faucet) , Director nor DOP … but ..
jeez … this is Sidney Pottier at his finest !!
This is a one hander that pulls you in with a decent story and peep into a renegades tortured soul. aaaaaand .. you have a front row seat to America’s first info attempt to splash its racist core beyond the Rockies ..
Needless to say no $ for marketing nor Oscar bribes so … one for the archives .

I went into this movie thinking it was just a dumb bodice-ripper and ended up crying my eyes out TWICE.

    THIS IS HARRASSMENT.

Really feels scripted and not that interesting but Sydney is good in anything like always. I put this on the background while doing work just to listen to something and not much happens other than talking. But a lot of skipping, to long and a lot of not interesting kind of boring parts. I’m giving a 5/5 for the Sydney potier parts or .5 for this review as a whole not great. Sydney great
